The specialty of Plastic Surgery embraces a broad range of practice to provide this expansive range of care. It is very helpful to understand that it is knowledge about how skin, subcutaneous tissues, muscles, blood vessels and nerves can be moved, manipulated with minimal trauma, and how they can be encouraged to optimally heal that probably best defines the craft of plastic surgery. The term plastic is derived from the Greek word plasticos – to shape or mould.
