Dr Stretch Introduction

Plastic surgery can be described as the comprehensive surgical care of the soft tissue envelope of the body using advanced techniques to maximise the outcome of any intervention.

The specialty of Plastic Surgery embraces a broad range of practice to provide this expansive range of care. It is very helpful to understand that it is knowledge about how skin, subcutaneous tissues, muscles, blood vessels and nerves can be moved, manipulated with minimal trauma, and how they can be encouraged to optimally heal that probably best defines the craft of plastic surgery. The term plastic is derived from the Greek word plasticos – to shape or mould.

Although my training and first decade of practice as a plastic surgeon involved virtually the entire spectrum of plastic surgery, my current practice is more sub-specialised. Nonetheless I bring the experience of my past diverse training and practice into virtually every aspect of my current practice which focuses on, but is not restricted to:

  • Reconstruction after injury or surgical excision
  • The entire spectrum of surgery for skin cancers and benign skin tumours
  • Cosmetic surgery of the face, breast, abdomen and limbs

Some of the other major disciplines within the specialty of plastic surgery include:

  • Congenital deformities including cleft lip & palate, and craniofacial deformities
  • Hand & upper limb surgery

  • Microsurgery
  • Care of  burns patients
